feature1-15Emily is a senior attending Libertyville High School in Illinois.  Her poem, “Irrational Love“, was selected as a Top Ten Winner in our Summer 2012 national poetry contest.

A few of Emily’s hobbies include writing, singing, playing tennis, hanging out with friends, and reading.  Her favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Dr. Seuss, and John Green.  Emily is shown in the picture to the left with two of her friends, she is the one in the middle.

“Irrational Love” was inspired, of course, by irrational love.  Emily fell head over heels for a guy who was incredibly logical.  “His rational plans for his future greatly contrasted my dream of becoming a writer.” Emily explains, “I realized that I didn’t want to be apart from this guy just because we were different. The cliché of having my head in the clouds crossed my mind as I was thinking of my situation, so I sat down at my computer to see what I could write, since writing is really my best method of sorting out my emotions; the result was ‘Irrational Love’.”

Emily is both excited and nervous to be heading to college next year.  Her future plans including writing, writing, and more writing.  Emily plans to attend college to study creative writing in the hope of bettering her literary skills.  Although Emily would love to write a best-selling novel, even if her novel is never a “best-seller”, she would be thrilled to see her book published and on the shelves of a Barnes and Nobles.
