Poetic Power

A Creative Communication blog

Featured Student Writer: Camille Shen

image-2Camille was a 7th grader attending Kilmer Middle School in Virginia when her poem, “Take a Pencil in Your Hand” was selected as a Top Ten Winner in our Fall 2014 national poetry contest. This means that her poem was selected as one of the ten best in her age division out of thousands of submitted entries.

“I was inspired to write this piece after I was given an assignment in my creative writing class to write a poem – any style or length; it was completely up to us.” Camille explained, “Since I had writer’s block at the time, I decided to write about my experience with writing- the night before it was due!”

Camille’s hobbies include tennis, violin, and drawing. For now, her goals for the future are to do her best in school, try new things, and do some traveling in the summer. She looks forward to working with other creative writers and developing her own writing style, as well as starting new pieces and projects.
