File.aspxAnya Ambarish is a top ten winner in our summer 2017 national poetry contest for her poem “Puppets.”

My name is Anya Ambarish, and I live in Sterling, Virginia. I am in the eighth grade at Stone Hill Middle School. When I found out I was a top ten winner, I was beyond ecstatic. Poetry is one of my biggest passions, because of the beautiful things you can do with letters and words. To receive such validation for my poem was just incredible. I was inspired to write Puppets because I have always thought of letters and words as extensions of myself. I am able to manipulate them in any way that I want, to express any emotion. I wanted to put this feeling on paper, which led me to write this poem.

Some of my other interests are tennis, basketball, and robotics. I enjoy these activities because the feeling of hitting the ball perfectly, sinking a shot into a soft net, and the triumph of getting a robot to work are things even words fail to describe.

My goals for the future are to start my own business, write a novel, and publish my complete collection of poems. All of these things will be very challenging, but I will savor every moment of the journey.Image result for anya ambarish
